As part of the observance of the 11th National Ayurveda Day, the Department of PG & Ph.D. Studies in Swasthavritta & Yoga, Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru, organized a Community Awareness Programme on Seasonal Health and Ritucharya for the students of St. Joseph’s College of Nursing, Mysuru, on 18/09/2026.
The programme was conducted by the faculty members and PG Scholars of the Department of PG & Ph.D. Studies in Swasthavritta & Yoga, with the objective of creating awareness among nursing students regarding the importance of adapting diet and lifestyle according to seasonal variations.
Programme Highlights
The participants were educated on the Ayurvedic concept of Ritucharya, including the changes occurring in the environment and the body during different seasons and the importance of appropriate Ahara (diet) and Vihara (lifestyle). The educational session covered the six seasonal regimens—Hemanta, Shishira, Vasanta, Greeshma, Varsha and Sharad Ritu.
Particular emphasis was given to seasonal food choices, appropriate physical activity, personal habits and precautions to be followed during different climatic conditions. The educational material also highlighted that following seasonal regimens helps the body adapt to changes in weather, temperature, digestion and activity and supports maintenance of health and well-being.
The students were also sensitized to practical seasonal health measures such as consuming freshly prepared and suitable foods, maintaining adequate hydration, avoiding contaminated or unsuitable foods during the rainy season, protecting oneself from excessive heat, and adopting appropriate lifestyle practices according to the season.
Outcome
The programme provided an opportunity for the nursing students to understand the preventive and promotive aspects of Ayurveda, particularly the relevance of Ritucharya in maintaining health and preventing seasonal health problems. The interaction also encouraged the students to incorporate appropriate seasonal health practices in their personal lives & community
